This weekend head over to Free Admission Weekend at The Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News!
Hours for Free Admission Weekend will be Saturday June 2, 2012 from 10am-5pm and Sunday June 3, 2012 from 1-5pm.
ARTventures programming for the kids will be Saturday only from 10am-4pm. This month the ARTventures will theme around Where the Wild Things Are author Maurice Sendak. Families will listen to Sendak's work to get inspiration for their own "Wild Things" monster creation and the kids can create a picture frame with an image of themselves (perfect for Father's Day).
While cost of admission to Pfac is free for the weekend the ARTventures program has a cost of $2 for non-members age 4 and up, and is free for Pfac members.
Docents will also be on hand in the exhibition Who We Are, Past and Present to get families talking about and interacting with the art on display. On Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm children can explore the possibilities of working with clay, touch clay spinning on the wheel and apply color to a pot. In addition to the wheel activities there will be soft slabs of clay and a variety of stamps for the kids to work with.
Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive, Newport News, Virginia 23606.
