This coming Saturday, May 18, 2013 is Kids to Parks Day! Childhood obesity has gone up as attendance in state parks has gone down. Kids to Parks Day is an initiative to encourage families to get out and get active with the kids.
Every state park in Virginia is participating with events for the kids to mark the occassion, including False Cape State Park, First Landing State Park and Newport News Park.
At First Landing: From 11am-2pm there will be kids crafts, a "swamp stomp" hike, and bird Olympics.
At False Cape: From 9am-1pm there will be a Kayaking 101 for Kids workshop, reservations are required: (757)426-7128
At Newport News Park: At 11am there will be outdoor games and activities at the Discovery Center.
No need to attend one of these events to participate in the spirit of Kids to Parks Day....choose your favorite park and head out to play! To take the official "Kids to Parks" pledge click HERE.
