This coming Saturday, May 17, 2014 is Kids to Parks Day! Childhood obesity has gone up as attendance in state parks has gone down. Kids to Parks Day is an initiative to encourage families to get out and get active with the kids.
Every state park in Virginia is participating with events for the kids to mark the occassion, including False Cape State Park, and First Landing State Park. Many other locations are having great outdoor events this weekend!
At First Landing: From 11am-2pm there will be kids crafts, a "swamp stomp" hike, and bird Olympics.
At False Cape: From 9am-1pm there will be fishing! Reservations are required: (757)426-7128, cost is $10
Norfolk Bike Safety Rodeo at Tarrellton Park: From 11am-2pm there will be free bike helmets, music, bicycle tune-ups, children's bike safety course led by the Norfolk Police Department, local bicycle vendors, BMX demonstrations, guest appearances, raffles, bike giveaways, and more.
“Ready, Set, Wear It!” Life Jacket World Record Day at Norfolk Naval Sailing Center from 10am-3pm
No need to attend one of these events to participate in the spirit of Kids to Parks Day....choose your favorite park and head out to play! To take the official "Kids to Parks" pledge click HERE.
