Mentoring Young Scientists Program (FREE!)

Does your child love science? Don’t miss this FREE opportunity open to students in 6th-8th grades from the Virginia Aquarium!

Mentoring Young Scientists (MYS) is a grant-funded program, funded by PRA Group, which pairs middle school students who have an interest in science with adult mentors to study topics related to the marine environment.

The participants meet from October through May, two to four times a month either on Friday evenings or Saturdays.

Field trips are also a part of the program and involve outdoor exploration in many different environments as well as a chance to meet scientists in the field! Fridays are spent at the Aquarium performing experiments related to past or upcoming field experiences.

As an MYS participant, the students have the opportunity to volunteer for many different special events at the Aquarium. Over the past year, MYS students volunteered hours for the Aquarium while helping to educate Aquarium guests on things that they learned.

Is your child interested in participating? The Aquarium will be having a MYS info session on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 5:30pm in the Marsh Pavilion. Applications are due by September 20, 2017.
