Upcoming Homeschool Learning Opportunities in Hampton Roads:

 

Colonial Williamsburg Homeschool Experience -  February 16-24 and September 7-22, 2013 

Colonial Williamsburg designates several weeks each year as Homeschooler Experiences. These experiences include activities and programming throughout the Historic Area, and special programs scheduled for homeschool participants including a variety of hands-on opportunities. Special rates are available year round for homeschoolers. These planned homeschool events are open to groups or individuals.

Homeschool Day at Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin! February 28, 2013 from 10am-5pm

Tour Nauticus & Battleship Wisconsin on this special day for homeschoolers! Homeschool families can enjoy discounted admission, special programming for no additional fee, gift shop coupon and more! Admission: $8 per child (ages 4-17); $10 per adult; Children age 3 and under FREE. Pre-registration is not available. Tickets may be purchased upon arrival.


Homeschooling Open House

Homeschooling families are invited to Main Street Library in Newport News for an Open House, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday, March 18, at Main Street Library. Families can explore print resources, including the Homeschooling Collection and genealogy resources, as well as see demonstrations of the new additions to the electronic resources. No registration is required.  For more information, call Main Street Library at (757) 591-4858.

 

The Mariners’ Museum’s "Earth Day" Homeschool Event - April 22, 2013 from 9:30am-3pm

Our spring Homeschool Day offers your family the exciting chance to explore The Mariners’ Museum at a reduced rate while celebrating Earth Day. For only $10 per person, your students will enjoy scavenger hunts, crafts, and interactive classes related to environmental science. Students will evaluate the condition of the Chesapeake Bay, experiment with ways the Bay can filter water, investigate the affects of marine debris on sea life, and so much more!

Join us for one of our open houses, designed to give parents and builders a chance tour our Build, Play, and Party Center, receive information about our new Homeschool STEM Program and Builder Club, and answer any questions you may have.

Homeschool Day at Virginia Aquarium - January 25, 2013 from 9am-5pm

Special Homeschool Day Rate: $10 per adult and $8 per child (ages two and up)

Annual Homeschool Day at Virginia Living Museum - January 30, 2013 from 9am-5pm

The Virginia Living Museum offers homeschool students ages pre-K through grade 12 a selection of fun and engaging classroom programs that highlight important natural science and earth science concepts. Natural science programs are available for elementary age students and environmental science labs are available for grades 5-12. Space science programs in the planetarium are available for all ages. 

The Museum offers Homeschool families extra deep discounted rates for this one-day-only program. Click HERE for pricing. Advance registration is required. The deadline for registration is at noon on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. Call 757-595-9135 for information and to register or complete the online form.

Homeschool Day at Children’s Museum of Virginia and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum - January 31, 2013 from 10am-2pm

This featured field trip takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes an education program at each site. The museums are conveniently located directly across High Street from each other, giving home schoolers flexibility to either spend the day exploring both places or to divide and conquer! For example, younger children may play with on fire truck and go bonkers for bubbles at the Children’s Museum while older kids will be inspired by Virginia’s incredible sports history and hit the basketball court and other interactive play areas at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum. (Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult). $9 admission per person.

Evening for Educators at Virginia MOCA (Adults Only)- Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 5:30-7:30pm                                                                                

An educators' night out to chat with exhibition curators and artists of current exhibit Out of the Box! Join in lively discussions, or simply enjoy the company of colleagues as you stroll through the galleries. Learn about resources and educational programs offered by MOCA during the school year for public schools and homeschools. Cash bar, food, and free resources. Free admission to this event.
