Winter Waterfowl Walks: It may be cold but winter is a great time of year to enjoy wildlife. Back Bay NWR staff and expert volunteers will lead guided bird walks throughout the winter. Join us as we walk the Bay Trail, looking for ducks, swans and other birds and wildlife that make winter a special time of year. Binoculars are available at no cost for use during the walks. Please call ahead to reserve a pair at (757) 301-7329 ext.3106. This event is free and there is no entrance fee to the wildlife refuge at this time of year.

Winter Tram Tours: Join Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park staff for a scenic ride to observe numerous flocks of wintering waterfowl, such as ducks, tundra swans, and snow geese. Then, continue into the heart of False Cape for a one mile (round trip) hike to the remnants of the Wash Woods Methodist Church and cemetery site. Reservations are required. Call False Cape State Park at (757) 426-7128 to reserve your seat. The tram costs $8.00 per person.
